About the Kursk
From the severity of the Cold War Era arms race, Russia came to emerge as the world’s second largest naval power. Meant to oppose the Aircraft Carriers of the powerful U.S. Navy, the Russian Navy created a new type of Guided-Missile Nuclear Submarine known as the Oscar class. Massive Oscar-I Class submarines were first employed in 1982. Later, the Oscar-I submarine would evolve into the even larger Oscar-II Class, with an awesome displacement tonnage of 18,300 tons and total length of 154 meters. Despite their gargantuan size, Oscar-II Class submarines were capable of high-maneuverability and silenced movement. In January 1995 the 10th submarine of the Oscar-II series, the K.141 Kursk, went into commission with Russia’s Northern Fleet and was assigned to defend the country’s northern borders. Like other Oscar-II Class nuclear submarines the Kursk had two-layer construction consisting of an 8.5 diameter pressure-resistant inner hull as well as an external hull. The approximately 3.5-meter space between these two hull layers housed twelve 550km-range SS-N-19 anti-ship cruise missile launch tubes on each side. To accommodate these missile launchers the 154m-long Kursk was built extra-wide, and this behemoth of a nuclear submarine became known for its total girth of 18.2 meters. The Kursk sank five years later on August 12th, 2000. This incident would mark the most tragic episode in all of Russian submarine history. At 11:30 am, 140km off the naval port of Severomorsk (Northern Fleet Headquarters), an explosion of unknown cause sent the Kursk 100m underwater to the bottom of the Barents Sea. Despite efforts of the Russian Navy, as well as British and Norwegian rescue crews, the 118 men on-board, including the captain, could not be saved.

Heading Into Battle With More AA Guns
Germany’s Z Class destroyers were built just prior to the start of WWII and saw combat against British destroyers at Narvik in northern Norway and as escorts for the battlecruiser Scharnhorst’s last sortie. The Type 1936A ships had their 12.7cm guns replaced with 15cm guns, and the Z37-39 ships in particular were fitted with a twin turret at the bow. In 1944, a plan to increase anti-aircraft armament on the Z Class destroyers, code-named “Barbara,” was put into action. These destroyers fought against the mighty Royal Navy until the end of the war.

This set contains assembly kits of a 1st Class Transport, which were designed to conduct forced reinforcment missions, and a 2nd Class Transport, which were used to carry tanks.

The sloped stern of the 1st Class Transport was able to accommodate two “Kouhyouteki” special attack submarines or five landing crafts. The 2nd Class Transport comes with two Type 97 tanks and three amphibious vehicles. With a little effort modelers can turn them into the centerpiece of an amphibious landing diorama.

Tamiya Waterline Series: Japanese Submarine I-58 Late Version 1:700 Scale Model

About the Japanese Submarine I-58
The I-58 was laid down in Yokosuka Navy Yard in September 1944. The vessel carried a Type 0 small reconnaissance seaplane E-14 (Glen) and a catapult to launch it. The primary weaponry of the I-58 consisted of six torpedo tubes, three on each side of the bow. It also served as the mother ship for the Kaiten human torpedoes. On the night of July 30th 1945, it attacked the U.S. Navy heavy cruiser Indianapolis with a salvo of six regular torpedoes. Two of those struck the cruiser and she sunk about fifteen minutes later.

This is an assembly kit of the battleship HMS Rodney, which was completed in 1927 and went on to participate in many well-known actions such as escorting convoys to Malta, the invasion of North Africa and Normandy, and of course the sinking of the German battleship Bismarck.

Its revolutionary design consisting of three triple 40.6cm gun turrets all mounted forward of the bridge has been accurately reproduced. The bridge, funnel, and mast near the stern are also brimming with detail. Line it up with the HMS King George V to recreate the major players that sank the Bismarck.

Mazda’s Roadster has been a massive hit since it debuted in September 1989, and this car was sold through the Japanese company’s Eunos channel.

Compact and with sensuous rounded body lines, retractable headlights and front triangular windows were popular design themes for this car, which came with a hand-operated soft top as standard. Under the hood was a 120hp 1,597cc DOHC inline-four engine, which was paired with a five-speed manual transmission and four wheel independent double-wishbone suspension. Its powerplant frame (PPF) linked the transmission and the differential and was designed to limit stresses on the chassis of this lightweight FR sports car, giving the driver direct feedback and feel.

This is a 1/24 scale plastic model assembly kit.
